This artwork shows an Islamic geometric pattern found in the Taj Mahal complex, in Agra, India. The eight-fold octagon pattern can be found in floor tiles leading up to the Taj Mahal building.
Safira has recreated this in her pen and ink style, using a straight-edge and compass. She draws directly on to the paper, with the grid lines showing, starting with a series of circles, before dividing them further to reveal the end pattern. She has used different pen thicknesses to show the different stages of the drawing.
It is painted in Safira’s signature abstract style using Autumnal colours in reds, oranges and browns, reflective of the time of year this was painted. It was painted freehand (without masking tape or masking fluid).
Created using ink pens and watercolour paints on 300gsm cold-pressed paper. Size in frame 60cm x 60cm.
The artwork is part of the ‘Circles’ collection created in 2025 and exhibited at StudionAme, Leicester, (August 2025) and at Kismet Gallery, London (May – June 2026).
The artwork comes framed in a black wooden frame, framed with glass. Provided with mirror plates and D rings so you have a couple of options of how to hang it at home.
