About Safira Ali


Safira Ali is a British artist, calligrapher and educator based in Leicestershire.
​
Her work predominantly focuses on Islamic geometry using shapes with strong colours. Themes of heritage and identity and how they connect with contemporary art are a key focus of her work. ​
She is inspired by geometry, intricate patterns and architecture, with her creations reflecting her South Asian roots.

Safira was a former journalist, who found her passion in art following a trip to Morocco. She has since travelled to Andalucia, Turkey, Pakistan, France and Fez to continue researching and studying the heritage of Islamic patterns and design.
She has studied traditional arts and geometry with the Art of Islamic Pattern, Prince’s School of Traditional Arts, the VMCTA and Deen Arts.
She uses classical tools and techniques to create geometric compositions, and making her own hand-made paints from rocks, minerals, gold and pigments.
Some of her work includes working with Bahrain International Circuit and Formula 1 Grand Prix at Silverstone She has also worked for Dior, Givenchy and Guerlain.​​​​​​​
